This rare print shows a view of Leeuwarden, Friesland, Netherlands. In the back we see the city with churches, mills and gateways to the city. In the front we see two armoured soldiers named Falon and Cadmus.

Medium: Etching / engraving on handlaid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 20.6 x 16.5 cm (8.11 x 6.5 inch). Image size: 18 x 14.5 cm. (7.09 x 5.71 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Slightly brownish. Brown spot right lower corner. Fold in upper corner. Remain of paper tape in one corner on reverse. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

From: ‘Der auf Ordre und Kosten Seines Kaysers reisende Chineser, …’, by D. Fassmann, first published periodically in 4 volumes from 1721-1733. A Dutch edition: ‘De Reizende Chinees …’, was published in Amsterdam, Hendrik Bosch, 1727-1728.

Biography engraver: Johann Christop Dehne (German. 1713-1741). Author: David F. Fassmann (1685-1744) was a German author / journalist, historian and publisher. From 1718 to 1739 he published the moral weekly periodical ‘Gesprache in dem Reiche derer Todten …’.
