BACKGROUND INFORMATION
After a drawing in BM. Age 1820-1835.
Biography engraver: Benjamin Phelps Gibbon (1802-1851) was a British printmaker from Penally, Pembrokeshire.
Biography artist: Adriaen van de Velde (1636-1672), was a Dutch painter, draughtsman and printmaker from Amsterdam. Animal & landscape painter and etcher, worked in Amsterdam. Active as etcher from 1653. Son of Willem van de Velde I and a pupil of Jan Wijnants in Haarlem around 1657. Often painted the figures in other painters’ paintings.
