Original antique print.It is numbered p. 65. It shows: two images on one sheet. Top: a rearing horse throwing its rider, with a second person present. Bottom: a man in classical dress walking towards a herd of cows. A boy leads the cows. This original print originates from a work by Basan: ‘Dictionnaire des graveurs anciens et modernes depuis l’origine de la gravure’, published in Paris in 1767, and again in 1789. This work contained numerous engravings, some of which were copies made by Basan, others original plates.. It was published by Basan in 1761.Artists and Engravers: Artist: Bertaux. Engraver: unknown, to be determined. Published by: Basan, in 1761. Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a ‘Dictionnaire des Graveurs’ in 1767.
Condition: Good, given age. Left margin quite foxed. General age-related light toning and/or staining from handling. Please study scan carefully
