Original antique print showing a portrait of Francois de La Mothe Le Vayer (1588 – 1672), a French writer who was known to use the pseudonym Orosius Tubero.

Medium: engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 15 x 22.2 cm (5.91 x 8.74 inch).

Condition: good, given age. A few small spots. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Ref: IFF 17e siècle 162-2(2).

Biography engraver: Claude Mellan d’Abbeville (1598-1688) was a French painter, drafsman, etcher and engraver. He was active in Paris and later became court engraver. He invented a new way of use of the echoppe-etching needle . His prints show a high quality of linework.
