This attractive prints is signed with a monogram EM in the plate and a signature in pencil by another person then E. Meisonnier.
Made by ‘Claude Faivre’ after ‘Jean-Louis Ernest Meissonier’. Claude Faivre was a 19th century French printmaker, studen of Boulanger, Courty and Jules Lefebvre. Jean-Louis Ernest Meissonier (1815-1891) was a French painter, engraver and sculptor who achieved such acclaim during his lifetime that a street in Paris was named after him. His son, Jean Charles Meissonier, was also an artist of some renown. Ernest Meissonier painted primarily military-themed images, during the battles of Napoleon or the French – German war. Meissonier was also known for the details that he included in his works,
