Description
This print shows a view on a Decoy ship passing its cables and making a signal to leave. Small boats next to the ship. Decoy vessels, special service ships, or mystery ships, were heavily armed merchant ships with concealed weaponry, designed to lure submarines into making surface attacks. One from a series of 6 engravings. This is number 2.

This attractive print was published ca. 1760.
Biography engraver: Nicolas Marie Ozanne (1728-1811) was a naval engineer, printmaker and marine artist, author of a naval treatise and creator of a series of 60 views of the ports of France. His work witnesses to the French Navy of his time, particularly the Ponant (western) fleet.
