‘3.Croquemitaine.’

Crayon style lithograph on wove (vellin) paper.
Sheet size: 22,5 x 19,5 cm. (8,9 x 7,7 inch). Image size: 17,5 x 16 cm. (6,9 x 6,3 inch).

From: ‘Alphabet moral et philosophique …’, printed and published in Paris by Gihaud Freres in 1835. Ref: Beraldi IV, p. 131.

Made by ‘Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet’ after own design. Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet (1792-1842) was a supporter of Napoleon Bonaparte. He choose his subjectmatter based on this preference. Many prints of soldiers were made by him in the new medium of lithography.

Condition: Good, given age. Overall foxing. Paper edges with some bending and chipping. Tear (6,5 cm) in bottom right corner. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
