Medium: Engraving on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 46 x 38.5 cm (18.11 x 15.16 inch). Image size: 46 x 38.5 cm. (18.11 x 15.16 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, soiling and creasing. Some dampstaining in margins. Ghosting from previous framing/matting. Some surface damge at top left margin. Small tear at left bottom area, backed and barely noticable. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Bernard Baron (1696-1762) was a French engraver who settled in England and became one of the leading reproductive engravers of his time. He is especially known for his prints after works by Hogarth and other English masters.

Biography artist: William Hogarth (1697-1764) was a major English painter, printmaker, and satirist. He is celebrated for his narrative series like “A Rake’s Progress” and “Marriage ? la Mode”, which offer biting commentary on 18th-century British society.
