Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 34 x 23.5 cm. The image size is ca. 27.5 x 15.5 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 13.4 x 9.3 inch. The image size is ca. 10.8 x 6.1 inch.
Plate, page 47: “De Verschrikking des Konings Belzazars, over de aan de Muur schrijvende Hand” (King Belshazzars terror from the observance of the writing on the wall.). This refers to the last king of Babylon, whose narrative can be found in the Book of Daniel in the Bible. This original engraving originates from: ‘Spiegel der Sibyllen, van Vierderley Vertooningen [etc.]’, by Johannes Aysma et al, published in 1685 in Amsterdam. (transl.: Mirror of sibyls / prophetess, of fourfold display.)Artists and Engravers: Artist and Engraver: Jan Luyken (1649-1712), belonged to the best engravers of the period.
Condition: Excellent given age. Original middle fold, small paper repairs to the rear of the sheet. General age related toning and light staining/thumbing. Please study scan carefully.
