Description
This print shows an arena in Tyrus where a wild bull receives stings with a branding iron. In vain he is supposed to run to the martyrs who are accompanied with two lions. The martyrs are praying to the Lord. People are watching the scene.

Medium: Etching / engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 18 x 14.5 cm (7.09 x 5.71 inch). Image size: 15.5 x 13.2 cm. (6.1 x 5.2 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Brownish in margins. On reverse remains of thin paper in upper corners. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

This attractive print was published ca 1685.
Biography engraver: Jan Luiken / Luyken (1649-1712) belonged to the best engravers of the period. His son Casper (1672-1708) assisted with the making of the prints.
