This is an original copper engraving of Pygmalion. Pygmalion was a king of Cyprus, who fell in love with an ivory statue of a woman. This original antique print was taken from ” Collection originale des tableaux les plus interessants des Métamorphoses d’Ovide publiés en 1655, par M. de Marolles, in Desnos, 1769 (the second edition of Temple des Muses). The plates were designed by Araham Diepenbek (a pupil of Paul Rubens) This print was from the second edition (1769) and is in a good condition, but has a restored tear of the text part (visible at the picture). It is the reason for the low start price. The overall size of this rare print is 12 inch x 8 3/4 inch. The image size is 10 inch x 7 inch.
