Description
Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 42.2 x 53.1 cm (16.61 x 20.91 inch). Image size: 42 x 50 cm. (16.54 x 19.69 inch).
Condition: A few small tears in left paper edge backed/restored. A small interior tear at the necklage and a pinsize hole near it. Pinsize light paper spot at top right and a tiny pinsize hole near it. Small hole in bottom margin. (see pictures). A few thicker inked areas left of head, from printing. Old horizontal fold line in middle. Light paper spot at middle right margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Biography engraver: Robert Nanteuil (1623?1678) was a celebrated French portrait engraver and draughtsman, active in Paris. He was known for his finely detailed and lifelike engravings, particularly of French nobility and clergy. Appointed official portrait engraver to Louis XIV in 1657.
