This print shows two herons and a stork with a frog in its beak. One bird flying. The other ones near or in the water.

Made by Thomas Neale after Francis Barlow.

Medium: Etching on hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: coat of arms.

Sheet size: 19.5 x 13.8 cm (7.68 x 5.43 inch). Image size: 18.5 x 12.8 cm. (7.28 x 5.04 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Smudges. Paper loss right lower corner. Hole in upper right corner. Remains of paper tape in upper corners reverse. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

This attractive print was published by Pierre Mariette II in Paris in 1659. Its from the series: Livre contenant la recherche de plusieurs peints et gravez d’apres nature.

Provenance: in pencil on revers: N. vd. ZM nr 9.

Biography artist: Francis Barlow (c.1626-1704) was an English painter, etcher, and illustrator. He ranks among the most prolific book-illustrators and printmakers of the 17th c.
