Original etching/engraving on a verge type handlaid paper. on paper.

Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 18 x 14.5 cm. The image size is ca. 14 x 12 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 7.1 x 5.7 inch. The image size is ca. 5.5 x 4.7 inch.

Original print, number 54, titled: Lynbanen, Oost-Indise Lynbanen, Admiraliteyts Lynbanen. The ropewalks in Amsterdam, of the Admiralty and East India Company. These were rope-makers’ workshops, where rope for sailing was made. This original print is from the rare topographical work ‘Amsterdam met der zelver Voornaamste Gebouwen / D’Amsterdam et deses Principaux Bastimens’ published ca. 1665. This work contains a total of one plan and 70 prints depicting the most famous buildings of Amsterdam (many of which are still extant). The prints are engraved after J. Veenhuisen en S. Webbers. Ref: Nijhoff-van Hattum 104, note. cf. Hollstein Veenhuijsen 3-71.Artists and Engravers: Jan Veenhuysen (ca. 1625-1693) was a Dutch printmaker. He is mainly known for the many views he made of Amsterdam, and his portraits. S. Webbers is possibly Sacharias Webber (Amsterdam 1644-1696) is an artist/engraver. He was a student of Gerard de Lairesse. His father was a bookseller/publisher.

Condition: Very good. Bottom margin stained. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
