Antique print, titled: ‘Alliantie.’ – (Alliance.) This allegorical print shows the alliance between the Netherlands / Batavian Republic and France, through an angel attaching two shields onto a tree. Published in Amsterdam by C.J. Roos. Dated 1795. Hand numbered in old writing 364 at bottom right.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Lambertus Antonius Claessens’ after ‘I. Kuyper’. Lambertus Antonius Claessens (Antwerp, 1763-1834) was a Flemish etcher and stipple engraver. He was a student of the Antwerp Academy and Bartolozzi. He worked in Antwerp, London and Amsterdam from 1795-1808 and then in Paris from 1809-1834. He worked for L.G. Portman.
Condition: Good, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
