BACKGROUND INFORMATION

“Prima Pars: ‘T eerste Deel van de Teekenkonst” published by Frederik de Wit and Joachim Ottens, Amsterdam, ca. 1650-1680.

Reference: New Hollstein (Dutch & Flemish) 231; Muller II 1853 (470); Roethlisberger 1993 (P.2).

Biography engraver: Jacob Matham (1571-1631), a Dutch engraver, was known for his works after the designs of notable artists and for his detailed, lifelike portraits.

Biography artist: Paulus Moreelse (1571-1638) was a Dutch portrait painter and draughtsman from Utrecht.
