– Scene from Book III of Virgil’s Aeneid: A Cyclops wades into the sea wielding a giant tree trunk, menacing the fleeing Trojan ships. On the shore, other Cyclopes are visible. Aeneas’ ships, richly decorated and with oars extended, sail away under full command. Engraved ornamental border surrounds the image.

Biography engraver: Abraham Bosse (French; 1604-1676) worked in Paris and made prints in the manner of Callot. He wrote a very famous treatice about etching and engraving. His prints document French life in the early and mid-17th. Century.
