Untitled print showing a tavern scene with three men playing cards.

Made by John Inigo Greenwood after Adriaen van Ostade.

Medium: mezzotint engraving on wove paper.

Sheet size: 30.5 x 40 cm (12.01 x 15.75 inch). Image size: 30.5 x 34.5 cm. (12.01 x 13.58 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Very small tear right edge, repaired. Two vertical creases. Slight paper erosion at places. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This original antique print was published ca. 1760. Possibly a proof printing before lettering. Artists and Engravers: This plate engraved by Greenwood after Van Ostade.

Biography engraver: John Inigo Greenwood (1729-1792) was born in Boston and died in London. Between ca. 1750 and 1770 he was active as a portrait painter in the Netherlands.

Biography artist: Adriaen van Ostade (1610-1685) was a famous Dutch Golden Age painter of genre works.
