Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 50.5 x 39 cm. The image size is ca. 45.5 x 35 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 19.9 x 15.4 inch. The image size is ca. 17.9 x 13.8 inch.
Plate: ‘The Peasant’s Quarrel.’. interior of a large room with a group of peasants fighting, some of them holding weapons (dagger, sword, stick, club, broom etc.), a woman climbing a ladder at centre, other women in despair in background, four children running away in lower right corner, a small dog in lower left corner. This original antique print was published c. 1641-1680.
Rare.
Artists and Engravers: This plate by Cornelis van Caukercken (1626-1680), a Flemish engraver. After a painting by Jan Miense Molaenaer (1610 – 1668), a Dutch Golden Age genre painter whose style was a precursor to Jan Steen’s work during Dutch Golden Age painting.
Condition: Fine. General age-related toning. Light soiling. Light staining in left bottom area, with some paper separation and damage to paper, backed (visible on rear scan) and retouched (barely visible, see scan). Paper loss in bottom right corner, backed with identical paper. Please study scans carefully.
