Description
Plate : ‘The Novel’. This plate shows Penelope, an old maid, angered at finding a book of “filthy trash” under the pillow of young woman who sits at her dressing table at right, turning with look of apology, oval design. Subject from Hayley’s Triumphs of Temper.
Made by James Parker after James Northcote.
Medium: stipple engraving / etching with hand colouring on wove paper.
Sheet size: 38.5 x 49 cm (15.16 x 19.29 inch). Image size: 30 x 36 cm. (11.81 x 14.17 inch).
Condition: good, given age. A crease in the lower margin, and a faint horizontal crease/fold. Paper slightly browned and light staining/soiling from handling as visible on image. A few small spots. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
