BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Simon de Vries or Simon Wynouts Frisius (ca. 1570/75-1628/29) was a Dutch engraver, etcher, draughtsman and calligrapher, born in Harlingen. He spent a few years in Paris but returned to the Netherlands, where he would spend his final days in The Hague. His prints show a very distinct style and mannerist character. .
Biography artist: Jacob Savery or Jacob Savery the Elder (1566 – buried 23 April 1603) was a Flemish painter, etcher and draughtsman. He was trained in Antwerp and later moved to the Dutch Republic after 1584. He specialised in still lifes, animals, landscapes en genre paintings.
