Made by Wenceslaus Hollar after Hendrick Goudt after Adam Elsheimer.

Medium: Etching on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 18.4 x 12.7 cm (7.24 x 5 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Attached to a carrier sheet. Small pinhole at top middle. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Biography engraver: Wenceslaus Hollar (23 July 1607 – 25 March 1677) was a prolific and accomplished Bohemian graphic artist of the 17th century, who spent much of his life in England. He is known to German speakers as Wenzel Hollar; and to Czech speakers as V?clav Hollar. He is particularly noted for his engravings and etchings. He was born in Prague, died in London, and was buried at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster.

Biography artist: Hendrick Goudt (c. 1583 – 17 December 1648) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, printmaker and draftsman of landscapes and religious subjects who was strongly influenced by Adam Elsheimer.

Adam Elsheimer (18 March 1578 – 11 December 1610) was a German artist working in Rome, who died at only thirty-two, but was very influential in the early 17th century in the field of Baroque paintings. His relatively few paintings were small-scale, nearly all painted on copper plates, of the type often known as cabinet paintings. They include a variety of light effects, and an innovative treatment of landscape. He was an influence on many other artists, including Rembrandt and Peter Paul Rubens.
