Medium: Handcoloured stipple and line engraving. on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 20.3 x 29.7 cm (7.99 x 11.69 inch). Image size: 19 x 28 cm. (7.48 x 11.02 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxing. Light ghosting from previous matting. . General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This print originates from ‘Costumes de diverses Pays’, an enormous series published in France from 1827.

Biography engraver: Georges Jacques Gatine (c. 1773-c. 1825) was a French engraver. His main work was for these costume prints after Lante, and similar work for Journal des Dames et des Modes. Louis-Marie Lante (1789-?) was a French painter, illustrator and designer. He worked closely with Gatine on creating these colourful costume prints.
