BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Likely created in Poland or France during Norblin’s active years, circa late 18th century.

Biography engraver: Henryk Daniel Nether (1760?1819), originating from Warsaw, was a pupil of Jean-Pierre Norblin de La Gourdaine. His works often drew inspiration from his mentor and the Old Masters.

Biography artist: Jean-Pierre Norblin de La Gourdaine (1745?1830), a French artist heavily influenced by Rembrandt, was a significant figure in Polish art and the father of Polish genre painting.
