BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This plate is from the two volume book series “LIBER ARTIFICIOSVS ALPHABETI MAIORIS”.

Biography engraver: Heinrich Hugo Contgen / Coentgen (1727-1792) was a German engraver from Mainz. He was the father of the painter and engraver Georg Joseph Contgen (1752-1799).

Biography artist: Johannes Merken (1725-1756) was a Dutch artist and draughtsman, active around 1755 in The Hague.
