Medium: Plate coloured (a la pouppee) mezzotint engraving on wove (vellin) paper.

Condition: very good, given age. Image fine. Ghosting from previous matting around the edges. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published in 1797 by Ch.r de Mechel.

Biography engraver: John Young (1755-1825) was a British mezzotinter and etcher. He was appreticed to Valentine Green.

Biography artist: Anton Hickel (1745-1798) was an Austrian painter/draughtsman. He feft France during the French Revolution and called himself ‘Painter to the Emperor of Germany’.
