Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.

Condition: very good, given age. Light creasing, foxing and soiling. Small tear at top right margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Academie Royale de Peinture et Sculpture (reception piece) for the 1740 Salon.

Reference: Portalis/Beraldi 1880, no. 28; Le Blanc (1854-88), vol.2, p.537, no. 18.

Biography engraver: Bernard Lepicie (1698-1755) was a French engraver and printer who became a member of the Academie Royale. Known for his portrait engravings, he contributed to numerous academic and royal projects.

Biography artist: Jean-Francois Delyen (1684-1761) was a French portrait painter and pupil of Hyacinthe Rigaud. He produced academic portraits and historical compositions for the French court and institutions.
