Made by Nicolas de Poilly after Salvator Rosa.

Medium: Etching on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 15.5 x 20.3 cm (6.1 x 7.99 inch). Image size: 9.4 x 13.9 cm. (3.7 x 5.47 inch).

Condition: good, given age. In good condition, tears from its previous binding in a volume. Minor handling marks on the edges. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Bound in a volume of etchings after Salvator Rosa, published by Nicolas de Poilly in France around 1660.

Reference: Bartsch / Le Peintre graveur (XX.287.67).

Biography engraver: Nicolas de Poilly (1626-1696) was a French engraver and publisher, known for reproducing works by prominent artists like Salvator Rosa. While it is certain the print was published by Nicolas de Poilly, it is uncertain whether he or someone else engraved this print.

Biography artist: Salvator Rosa (1615-1673) was an Italian Baroque painter and etcher, known for his wild landscapes, battle scenes, and mystical themes.
