Artists and Engravers: Made by John Jones after W.R. Bigg. John Paul Jones (c. 1745-1797) was a British engraver. He was appointed engraver extraordinary to the Prince of Wales, and was also the principal engraver to the Duke of York. He produced a large number of portraits, mainly after Reynolds, Romney and other contemporary painters. He was both a mezzotint and stipple engraver. William Redmore Bigg (1755-1828) was an English painter. He studied at the Royal Academy under Eward Penny. Bigg’s greatest pleasure lay in painting children. He produced small portraits and rustic genre pieces.
