Biography engraver: Jean Thouvenin (Paris, ca. 1765 ? after 1828), French engraver in burin and stipple, active in Joinville (Haute-Marne), Paris, London, and Rome. Known as a skilled reproductive engraver, he interpreted works by artists such as Marie-Guillemine Benoist, Vincenzo Camuccini, Claude-Louis Desrais, Charles Le Brun, Nicolas Poussin, Raphael, Rubens, and Veronese. His oeuvre spans religious, historical, allegorical, and decorative subjects. His works are held in major collections including the BnF, Louvre, ENSBA, Albertina, and others. He also taught pupils such as Jean Geoffroy (b. 1793).
