Medium: Stipple engraving, plate coloured (a la poupee) on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 57 x 44 cm (22.44 x 17.32 inch). Image size: 54 x 41 cm. (21.26 x 16.14 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxinng and soiling, mostly in margins. Some thin paper spots in margin and paper edges with some chipping and small tears. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published in Paris, ca. 1795?1810.

Biography engraver: Louis-Francois Mariage was French stipple engraver active in Paris at start of the 19th.c.

Biography artist: Constance Marie Blondel Charpentier (1767?1849), French painter, pupil of Jacques-Louis David. Specialized in allegorical, mythological, and sentimental scenes, as well as portraits. She exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, and many of her works were engraved in stipple for wide circulation.
