Made by ‘Jacob Matham’ after ‘Hendrik Goltzius’. Attributed to Jacob Matham. Jacob Matham (1571 – 1631), of Haarlem, was a famous engraver and pen-draftsman. He was the stepson and pupil of painter and draftsman Hendrik Goltzius, and brother-in-law to engraver Simon van Poelenburgh, having married his sister, Marijtgen. Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman, printmaker and publisher. He was a student of Coornhert. In his early life he was mainly active as engraver. Around 1600 he also started painting.
Condition: Fair, given age. Trimmed to image. Loss of captions below. Paper loss at corners, backed. Thin paper spots, Small tear at bottom left of middle. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
