BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Original antique master print published by J. Thane, in 1792. Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters. Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Strutt after a painting by Stothard.
Biography engraver: Joseph Strutt (1749-1802) was an English engraver, artist, antiquary and writer. He is mostly known for his work on historic costume, but was also a gifted (stipple-) engraver.
Biography artist: Thomas Stothard (1755-1834) was a British painter, illustrator and engraver.
