Biography engraver: Willem Jacobsz. Delff (1580-1638) was a Dutch engraver from Delft and one of the leading portrait engravers of the Dutch Golden Age. He frequently worked after paintings by Michiel van Mierevelt, translating these portraits into finely detailed engravings that circulated widely throughout Europe.
Biography artist: Michiel van Mierevelt (1566-1641) was one of the most prominent portrait painters of the Dutch Golden Age. Based in Delft, he painted portraits of many leading political and intellectual figures of the Dutch Republic and European nobility. His works were often reproduced in engravings by artists such as Willem Jacobsz. Delff.
