BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Created as part of a series of military fortifications, possibly commissioned by the French royal court in the late 17th to early 18th century.
Biography engraver: Sebastien Leclerc (1637-1714) was a renowned French engraver, draftsman, and military engineer. He worked under the patronage of Louis XIV and specialized in technical and decorative engravings, often depicting fortifications, battles, and allegorical subjects. He was appointed “graveur du Roi” and was a professor of perspective at the Acad?mie Royale.
