BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Master print published in 1784. Our definition of master print is: a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters. Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Ch. Cl. Bervic after N.C. Lecipie.
Biography engraver: Charles Clement Balvay (also Bervic) (1756-1822) was a French engraver.
Biography artist: Nicolas-Bernard Lepicie (1735-1784) was a French artist. He was the son of two reputed engravers of the time: Francois-Bernard and Renee-Elisabeth, and was introduced to art by his parents. In the 18th century his work was compared to that of Chardin and Greuze.
