The original painting is held in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

Medium: Mezzotint engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

After the painting by Jan de Baen that is displayed in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

Biography engraver: Abraham Blooteling (1640-1690) was a Dutch engraver and printmaker, one of the first to use mezzotint technique in the Netherlands and England.

Biography artist: Jan de Baen (1633-1702) was a leading Dutch portrait painter of the late 17th century, known for depictions of political and intellectual elites.
