BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Based on a painting attributed to Paul de Vos, located at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp. Although the print mentions Mario di Fiori.
Reference: Andresen 40; Wessely (Earlom) 139; LeBlanc 51. Considered one of the finest plates by Earlom.
Biography engraver: Richard Earlom (1743-1822) was an reknown English mezzotint engraver. He displayed great skill as a draughtsman, and at the same time acquired without assistance the art of engraving in mezzotint.
Biography artist: Paul de Vos (1595-1678), Flemish Baroque painter known for his vivid depictions of animals and hunting scenes.
