BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Based on painting by Rubens. Published by Pieter Soutman and later Clement de Jonghe.

Biography engraver: Pieter van Sompel (active c.1640-1650) was a Flemish engraver known for reproductive prints after Rubens. Active in Antwerp in the mid-17th century.

Biography artist: Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) was a Flemish painter and diplomat, major Baroque artist known for dynamic compositions and religious themes.
