Medium: Etching and engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.

Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing, soiling and creasing. Trimmed within plate marks. Rear: remains of paper from attachment. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Originally published c.1660.

Biography engraver: Johannes (Jan) Visscher (c.1636-c.1692) was a Dutch engraver and mapmaker known for his landscapes and reproductions of works by Dutch Golden Age painters, especially Berchem.

Biography artist: Nicolaes Pietersz Berchem (1620-1683) was a Dutch Golden Age painter and draughtsman famous for pastoral scenes, often with cattle, ruins, and romanticized southern European settings.
