BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Giovanni Battista Falda (c.1640-1678) was an Italian draughtsman and printmaker best known for his detailed engraved views of Rome. Working closely with the publisher Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi, he produced numerous series depicting Roman architecture, fountains, palaces and urban vistas during the 17th century. His prints are among the most important visual documents of Baroque Rome.
