BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Reference: British Museum 1855,0609.1163; Enrica Pan, Jacopo Bassano e l’incisione (1992), cat. 106.

Biography engraver: Andrea Zucchi (1679-1740) was a Venetian engraver known for reproductions of paintings in Venetian palaces. Contributed many plates to ‘Il Gran Teatro di Venezia’.

Biography artist: Francesco Bassano (1549-1592), son of Jacopo Bassano, was an Italian painter of the Venetian school, known for large narrative compositions. This work was originally in the Palazzo Ducale. Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696-1770) was a painter and etcher from Venice.
