Medium: Mezzotint withh a-la-poupee / plate and hand colouring on wove (vellin) paper. Watermark: W KING.

Sheet size: 50.5 x 55 cm (19.88 x 21.65 inch). Image size: 44.3 x 49.8 cm. (17.44 x 19.61 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, soiling and creasing. Small tears in paper edges. Some tears and acidification at the lower dress, backed. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

After a painting by Gainsborough, held in the Tate Collection.

Biography artist: Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788) was one of the most important British portrait and landscape painters of the 18th century. A founding member of the Royal Academy, his elegant and romantic portraiture remains iconic within British art history.
