BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Part of a suite of twelve etchings depicting rural landscapes and travel scenes. This print, numbered “11” in the series, portrays travelers arriving at an inn in the countryside. Another copy featured in the Dutuit collection, now in the Petit Palais, Paris.

State: Ealy impression.

Biography engraver: Anthonie Waterloo (1609/1610-1690) was a Dutch Golden Age painter and etcher, known for his atmospheric landscapes. Originally from Lille, he worked in Utrecht and Amsterdam, producing numerous etchings of wooded and rural scenes.
