Antique print, untitled. The Liberation of Peter from prison. It illustrates Acts 12, in which an angel rescues Saint Peter from Herod’s prison on the eve of his trial. The angel and Peter are ready to leave, with a sleeping guard to both sides. State: only state. Artists and Engravers: Made by I.F. Bause after A. Bloemaert. Johann Friedrich Bause (1738-1814) was was a German engraver. He was boprn in Halle, Saxony, and believed to be self-taught as an engraver. He died in Weimar. Abraham Bloemaert (1566-1651) was a Dutch painter and etcher/engraver. He was one of the ‘Haarlem Mannerists’, but shifted towards a more Baroque style around 1600.
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped to the image edge. Attached to carrier. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
