BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Johannes Wierix (1549-1618), an Antwerp-based engraver renowned for his detailed works often depicting religious and allegorical themes. Part of the prolific Wierix family of engravers.
Biography artist: Hans Vredeman de Vries (1527-1606), a Dutch Renaissance artist, architect, and theorist, whose works influenced architectural designs and ornamentation in Europe.
