Biography engraver: Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) was a Bohemian-born etcher and printmaker who spent much of his career in England. One of the most prolific graphic artists of the seventeenth century, he produced thousands of etchings depicting portraits, city views, costumes, landscapes, and historical scenes. His precise line and delicate tonal work made him one of the most respected printmakers of the Baroque period.
Biography artist: Adriaen Pietersz van de Venne (1589-1662) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, draughtsman, and poet active in The Hague. He produced allegorical scenes, political satire, landscapes, and book illustrations, often related to contemporary events in the Dutch Republic. Van de Venne also worked closely with publishers and poets and contributed illustrations to numerous emblem books and literary publications.
