Antique map, titled: ”Indian Ocean Ceylon East Coast from River Singane to Point Pedro including Trincomalee.” – A map of the coast of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) from the Northern point of ths island (Point Pedro) South to just past Batticaloa. This includes Trincomalee. Two inset maps show Vandalous Bay and the area around Batticaloa. Published by the Hydrographical Office in 1858, sold by J.D. Potter.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘J. &. C. Walker’ after an anonymous artist. John, Alexander and Charles Walker, known collectively as J & C Walker (active 1820-95), were engravers, draughtsmen and publishers working through the 19th century. The firm is best known for its work on the maps issued by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. However, they also engraved a large number of maps for the British Admiralty , as well as issuing several important maps of India and multiple issues of the Royal Atlas.

Condition: Good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Several small tears in the margins, not affecting image (mostly closed with acid-free archival tape). Paper separation in the left and right edges of the middle fold (extending into the image). Small dampstains in the margins, and in the top and lower left corners of the image area. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
