BACKGROUND INFORMATION

German edition of Louis Capitaine’s Carte generale de la France series. (180 feuilles), Paris, rue Serpente n?17, c. 1810.

Biography artist: Louis Capitaine (1749-1797) was a French cartographer who succeeded Cassini de Thury in directing the Carte de France project (1784). He produced the first map to include the new administrative divisions of France after the 1789 Revolution.
