Description

Subject: Antique map, titled: ‘De oude Wereldt tot beter verstandt der oude geschiedenissen.’ – (The Old World, for a better understanding of ancient history). This map shows Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Two inset maps show Peloponnese and Northern Italy.

Condition: Good, given age. Original folds, as issued. Small tears in lower margin and two folds are seperated, fully backed by contemporary paper for consolidation. Some creases in paper. Some stains in margin and in print. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Medium: Copperplate engraving / etching on verge (hand laid) paper.

Description: “Algemene kerkelyke en werldlyke geschiedenissen des bekenden aardkloots.”, by Geerlof Suikers and Isaak Verburg, published in 1728 in Amsterdam by R. and J. Wetstein and W. Smith.

Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘J. Keizer’ after own design. Jacob Keyser / Keiser / Keizer / Kyser was a Dutch cartographic engraver / etcher. He was active in Russia and The Netherlands from 1704-1745. Publisher: R. and G. Wetstein. Author: Geerlof Suikers (1669-1717) was a Dutch lawyer and historian from Helmond. He wrote the first world history in Dutch.
